Methods For Training Your CRM Users

In this article we are going to explore some pros & Cons of different methods of training your staff on a new CRM Software.

First: 1-on-1 CRM Training (in-House)

This is more of an intimate approach to training, some people learn better this way because it’s very hands on and it’s not like sitting and taking an online class to get you up to speed.

Pros

  • Ease of communication between class and Instructor
  • Focus-you can give the class all of your attention & not be distracted
  • Hands on-you can actually follow along and do the exercises yourself

Cons

  • Travel may be required depending on how extensive the training class is and the location of the class.
  • Training class Fee-usually if an instructor is teaching a class there will be added expense for enrollment

Second: Self-Led CRM Training

Self-led training opportunities are popular online, it gives you the ability to do the learning and class on your own time and not impede your daily schedule. If this route is available for you it may be a good option just make sure you have the self discipline to do the classes and training on your own time without management having to interfere. When correctly implemented online classes and self-led training can be an amazing option.

Pros

  • 24/7 access to learn
  • Work on your own schedule
  • Cheaper than an instructor-Led class on average
  • Some people learn better at their own pace

Cons

  • Much less support if you don’t understand something within the training
  • Less accessible for the less tech savvy users
  • Training may require additional downloads or specific browser to access the courses

Third: Self Setup CRM Training

This Method of training consists of a Manager or (superuser) Who would teach the users In-House, this is a common method because it can save additional $ in some instances if the CRM company charges for training per user or by the hour. It’s much easier to train one Manager and cut him loose then it would be up to him to get his team trained and up to speed.

Pros

  • Cost- the cost of training one person compared to a whole team is obviously a cheaper endeavor.

  • Being trained by a member of management is good as it allows them to show you exactly how they want the processes and workflow done

Cons

  • Quality of training- If the manager doing the teaching has no experience teaching or has rough communication skills this can affect the quality of training significantly

  • Time-you will have to allow the trainer the time to actually Learn the new CRM before he’s able to start teaching others, this could take some time.

Which Sort of CRM Training Fits Your Team?

  • Resources at your disposal- determining what training method is best can come down to a few key things. Do you have the management to train a class in house, Is it within your budget?

  • Quality of training- Are your team members dedicated and disciplined enough to self-teach?

  • External training-Having the CRM Company teaches your team may be the fastest way they can understand and start working.

Whichever training option you choose just remember that educating your staff  constantly will keep them sharp and ready for anything. The training is one of the most crucial aspects of implementing a new Software.
